Officers were sent to the Cumberland Farms on North Main Street for a report of a shoplifter. Before arriving, a description of the suspect was shared with officers and one, while checking behind the Concord Center, ran into a woman who stated she saw a man run into the bushes behind the store. The officer approached the man, who appeared to be "avoiding detection," according to an affidavit. Later, the man ran through other bushes attempting to elude the officer, the report said. "Due to the density of the brush," the suspect, later identified as Martin, had "a very difficult time running," the officer wrote. Later, he stopped and was handcuffed. A search, the affidavit said, led to the officer finding two unopened packs of batteries the store employee claimed were stolen. The officer accused Martin of admitting to the theft and saying he got "a high from stealing things," the affidavit said. He was arrested and held without bail. Martin has been convicted on theft charges a number of times before, according to reports.
