Top Cop Stories in NH in 2015

From major drug busts to tragic deaths and teens in trouble, New Hampshire's law enforcement community was very busy this year.

New Hampshire is considered, by most studies, to be one of the safest places in the United States to not be a victim of crime, including homicide rates, which have been declining across the country since the mid-1990s.

However, in recent years, some areas of the state, including the Manchester-Nashua metropolitan area, have seen a steady increase in violent crime. And the shocking surge in heroin crime and overdose deaths – doubling in 2013 from 2012, and then tripling in 2014 – has caused officials to act.

Earlier this year, Manchester Police began Operation Granite Hammer initiatives that rounded up alleged drug dealers and users around the Queen City. Other departments have also conducted drug raids and state officials held a special session of the Legislature in order to consider proposals to fight the problem.

Next year, the Legislature will meet again meet to consider proposals put forward by the drug task force.
