Fireworks will be going off all over Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, during the long Fourth of July weekend, and in some communities the big bang starts July 1.
Many locals and tourists will be heading to the shores of the Potomac for the fireworks on the National Mall.
But there will also be several events in Patch towns across Northern Virginia.

A day full of events in Washington, DC, includes the Independence Day Parade, Smithsonian Folklife Festival and the Capitol Fourth Concert, with the signature event being the fireworks, which are launched beginning at 9:09 p.m.
