Vinikay Branford, 29, of Jefferson Avenue in Rockville Center, New York, was arrested at 11:50 a.m. on Nov. 15 on a felony attempt to commit falsifying physical evidence and resisting arrest or detention charges. An affidavit noted Branford was a suspect in an organized retail crime enterprise case after his Honda Civic was stopped the night before. The car, the officer wrote, “had a large quantity of retail grade items (in) it that were suspicious in nature.” The items were meal replacement beverages and Roku video streaming devices, the report said. Branford was accused of telling the detective she bought some of the items via cell phone. The detective applied for a search warrant of her electronic devices, and it was approved by a judge. The reporting detective and a second detective began eyed Branford’s iPhone, which was unlocked, and it was set aside to secure it. She was then accused of attempting to pull it away from the second detective “in an attempt to turn her phone off.” The detective accused Branford of lunging toward the phone and resisting stopping so she was arrested. After being arrested, she was accused of continuing to be resistive. Branford was held on preventative detention and taken to the county jail. She was released later on $5,000 cash bail. A dispositional conference was held in Merrimack County Superior Court on Jan. 11.
Joseph Kenneth Waniski, 23, with a last known address of Abbott Road in Concord, on a felony falsifying physical evidence charge. Two detectives stopped a Chevrolet Cruze with New Hampshire plates in the area of Sewalls Falls Road and Manor Road. The car was registered to Calvin Faria, 19, who had an active arrest warrant on a robbery charge in Pennsylvania, according to an affidavit. He was arrested after the stop, the report said. A girl, 17 at the time, was also in the car. Waniski, the detective wrote, was driving. Where Faria was seated, “in plain view,” was a bag of marijuana was on the floor of the car, the detective wrote. After arresting Faria, the detectives spoke with Waniski and asked him where the marijuana was. “Joseph hesitated and stared at me while keeping his arms within his sweater,” the affidavit said. Waniski was accused of reaching into the back of the car and giving the officer the bag. He was then arrested. Waniski was arraigned in superior court on Dec. 14. He is due back for a dispositional conference on Feb. 14.
