Coronavirus Live Colorado Updates: 591 Cases, 7 Deaths

A Weld County woman in her 70s is Colorado's seventh death from the new coronavirus, health officials confirmed Sunday evening.

A man in his 70s from El Paso County was the sixth person to die from COVID-19 in our state, and just hours earlier, the state's fifth death was reported— a man in his 60s from Eagle County. He died in a Denver hospital, health officials said.

As of Sunday afternoon, there were 591 cases of COVID-19 in 29 counties our state, and around 5,436 people had been tested, public health officials confirmed. There were 58 people hospitalized.

A Colorado National Guard Soldier, at Fort Carson’s 168th Regional Training Institute, has tested positive for the virus.

In a news conference Sunday afternoon, Gov. Jared Polis said our state is copying South Korea and Taiwan's swift response and learning from Italy's failure to contain COVID-19.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment ordered the closure Thursday of all nonessential personal services, which includes spas, hair salons, nail salons, barbershops and tattoo parlors, until April 30. Polis also ordered the suspension of all non-elective surgeries in an effort to preserve medical equipment that's needed to combat the virus.

Polis said the state would be extending the income tax filing deadline until July 15.

"There are 2.5 million taxpayers in Colorado — we hope this gives them one less thing to worry about," Polis said.

The governor announced a new emergency council for economic stabilization and growth Friday.

"All of us will be impacted by this economic crisis," he said.
