Jonathan Michael McCarthy, 38, a homeless man now located in Concord, was arrested at 11 p.m. on June 27 on simple assault and domestic violence-simple assault charges. Police were sent to Warren Street around 5 p.m. on June 26 to speak with a woman about McCarthy when a third party told police there had been an assault earlier — with the person claiming McCarthy elbowed the woman in the face that morning. The officer spoke to the woman, who did not speak about the assault, a report stated. After being prodded, the officer wrote the victim accused McCarthy of being intoxicated and when she refused to give him more alcohol, “he became very angry and wrapped his arm around her mouth.” Usually, the woman said, he “punches her in the head but has never choked her.” The officer reported seeing colored bruising on her chin and lower lip as well as a tear in her lip. After taking pictures, the officer continued to speak with the victim who claimed McCarthy had previously stated to her that “rats deserve to die” and she feared him, an affidavit stated. The officer went to Concord Hospital where she spoke with McCarthy who denied seeing the victim for three weeks, called her a meth addict, and denied assaulting her, according to an affidavit. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was picked up along the railroad tracks on Storrs Street.
