CONCORD, NH — Walter I. Healey, 62, pictured in this file photo, a homeless man now located in Concord, was arrested at 10:14 a.m. on Jan. 19, 2017, for simple assault and disorderly conduct. At just before 10 a.m., according to a court affidavit, officers were sent to Market Basket on Fort Eddy Road for a report of an intoxicated man stumbling around. En route, more reports came in to dispatch that there was an intoxicated man in a blue coat being belligerent to customers. As the reporting officer arrived and scanned the area, he reportedly saw Healey – a man he knew from previous interactions – wearing a blue coat, standing near a Red Box machine. “Healey asked an individual that had walked past him for a cigarette and the male refused,” the officer alleged, “and Healey said, ‘F--- you!” The officer approached Healey and noted “several injuries” on his face, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol, so officers took him into protective custody and transported him to Concord Hospital, to be checked out. After being removed from the cruiser, he allegedly yelled obscenities and was warned not to swear or he would be charged. After being put in a pod room, he allegedly continued swearing and screaming again, and later, yelled at hospital security and a nurse, according to an affidavit. After reportedly refusing a breathalyzer test, he became more belligerent and officers placed him back in handcuffs. During this process, he allegedly tried to kick the reporting officer in the groin but missed and struck his upper leg. Healey was placed under arrest and transported back to the cruiser – allegedly acting out of control – and was transported to county where he was held.
