Gary J. Bailey, 45, of Gage Street in Boscawen was arrested at 10:01 a.m. on Jan. 18 on forgery and theft by unauthorized taking, $1,001 to $1,500, charges, both felonies. Around 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 25, 2022, an officer was sent to the Bank of New Hampshire on Triangle Park Drive to investigate a check fraud claim. A man claimed he issued a check, but it was flagged as fraudulent due to the previously used check number. The check, for $1,275, dated April 21, 2022, was made out to someone named “Brent Metgger,” but that person, the man said, did not work for him. The man said he did not notice the fraudulent withdrawal until he attempted to issue the check. The officer spoke with a fraud analyst and received photos of a man who cashed the check and a Ford pickup truck, owned by a woman, the man was driving. The image was “too pixelated,” but there were noticeable identifiers, the report said. According to a prior offense, Bailey was stopped operating another vehicle owned by the woman, a Lexus. The officer checked photos of Bailey, who was arrested in Concord in 2012, and his DMV photo and “was able to confirm that he was my suspect,” the officer wrote. On Oct. 25, 2022, the officer went to Boscawen to speak with Bailey, asked him if he was at the bank that day, and was accused of admitting to being at the bank on that day. When asked if he went to the bank to cash a check, Bailey said he did, but “it did not go through,” an affidavit said. When told the surveillance video showed him receiving $1,275, “he told me he did not remember getting that much cash,” the report said. Bailey was accused of blaming the woman for getting the check from two other men. None of them have been charged.
