Alec T. Polep, 25, of King Street in Boscawen, was arrested at 7:38 p.m. on Jan. 3, 2017, theft by unauthorized taking, a felony. On Dec. 2, 2016, officers were sent to Hannaford on Fort Eddy Road for a report of a shoplifting incident. They spoke with the store manager and an employee who were outside of the store with a shopping cart with items, according to a court affidavit. They alleged that a man attempted to steal the items, was caught, and fled the scene in a red Toyota Camry. The store employee reportedly took a picture of the vehicle. Merrimack County Sheriffs later located the vehicle and the suspect – Polep – allegedly at his home where he was arrested on unrelated charges. The reporting officer eyed security video at the store and alleged that Polep had put items in the cart and then left the store without paying for the items – more than $20 worth of vitamins and melatonin, according to the affidavit. The officer later visited with Polep at the Merrimack County House of Corrections and he allegedly admitted to stealing the items. Since he had two prior convictions for theft in February 2009 and July 2010 in Concord District Court, the charge was elevated to a felony. An affidavit was filed on Jan. 1.
