Newmarket Man Dies After Portsmouth Crash
A man from Newmarket died after a chase with police and a crash in Portsmouth.
Around 5 p.m. on Sept. 28, state police were requested to Ocean Road for a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a Nissan Sentra. About 15 minutes before, a Rockingham County Sheriff’s deputy spotted the Sentra, stating it had an expired inspection sticker and front-end damage while driving on Route 101 in Hampton. After an attempt to stop, the deputy alleged that the driver fled.
The car drove onto Route 27 and then, Route 1 in Hampton. A BOLO — “be-on-the-lookout” call was made for the car and a Greenland police officer spotted it and attempted a stop on Post Road. The driver, however, was accused of failing stop, drove onto Route 33, and then Ocean Road, “at a high rate of speed until the driver lost control and went off of the right side of the roadway into the woods in the area of 424 Ocean Road in Portsmouth,” Lagace said. The driver, John Toussaint, 33, of Newmarket was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Lagace added that all aspects of this crash remain under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed or had any info about the crash were asked to contact Trooper First Class Nathaniel Goodwin at 603-545-4288 or Nathaniel.D.Goodwin@dos.nh.gov.
