CONCORD, NH — Wolfeboro police arrested an elderly resident on Wednesday after she was accused of crashing into a trooper cruiser while intoxicated.

Around 8:30 a.m., police and troopers were sent to a two-vehicle crash on Route 28. When they arrived, they found a Chevrolet SUV had collided with a state police cruiser. Tyler Dumont, a public information officer for the New Hampshire State Police, said an investigation found the trooper had been driving south when they attempted to stop a vehicle. The trooper cruiser’s emergency lights were activated. At the same time, the SUV “pulled out in front of (the cruiser) from Northline Road” and crashed into the cruiser.

Diane Alger, 71, of Wolfeboro, “said she had consumed alcohol before the crash,” he added and was arrested on a DWI charge. She was not injured but was taken to Huggins Hospital for a DWI blood test, Dumont said. The trooper was also taken to the hospital to be evaluated after being injured during the crash.

Troopers Step Up Route 4 Patrols

Route 4 runs from Portsmouth to Lebanon, about 107 miles.

And during the next week, New Hampshire State Police, along with their counterparts in Maine, will be patrolling Route 4 as part of a “high-visibility enforcement effort.”

Officials said, during the past five years, there have been more than 32,000 crashes between the capital region and the Seacoast. Most of the crashes were in Concord, Portsmouth, and the three counties.

During the effort, state troopers hope to “deter and detect dangerous driving behaviors,” including speeding and distracted driving.

“Route 4 is a busy road for drivers commuting for work and pleasure from the Upper Valley to the Capital Region, and from cities and towns on the Seacoast to Maine,” New Hampshire Department of Safety Assistant Commissioner Eddie Edwards said. “During this effort, we hope drivers will be educated about the risks of poor decision-making behind the wheel.”

The effort will be funded by state and federal grants.

Woman Arrested After New Hampton Crash

A woman from Washington was arrested after a crash on Interstate 93 in New Hampton on May 11.

Around 2:15 a.m., state police dispatch received an automated crash notification in the area of New Hampton. Calls also came in from witnesses who stated a Jeep Renegade had crashed into a highway median.

When troopers arrived to the scene, just before the Exit 23 offramp, they found the vehicle and the driver, Amanda B. Webber, 28, who was airlifted by DHART to Concord Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being evaluated by New Hampshire Fire and Rescue teams.

“The on-scene investigation determined the Jeep left the road, struck an embankment, and rolled multiple times before coming to rest in the median,” Dumont said.

Webber was charged later with driving under the influence.

I-93 was shut down for around 30 minutes, Dumont said.

“While driver impairment and excessive speed appear to be the leading causes of the crash, all aspects remain under investigation,” he said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has information that could assist in the investigation was asked to contact Trooper Zachary Bilotta at Zachary.T.Bilotta@dos.nh.gov or State Police Communications at 603-223-4381.
