Police were sent to the Hannaford supermarket on Fort Eddy Road for a man filling his backpack with products and leaving the store. An officer arrived just as the man, Doucette, was accused of leaving without paying for the items — including a bottle of Advil inside a pocket, a flashlight in his sweater, ice cream in his pants, gummy bears, oatmeal bars, Sprite, a pepperoni stick, and other things, about $53. The officer requested the Doucette step back in the store and accused him of denying stealing anything and then, making a run for it. He dropped the backpack along his way toward Petco but the officer was able to catch him, a report said. Doucette added the officer did a “good job” catching him, an affidavit said. A loss prevention employee submitted a video to the police. A watch commander told the officer Doucette was found guilty of theft in Hillsborough County Superior Court in February and Merrimack County Superior Court in August 2022, elevated the charge to a felony.
