Virginia Coronavirus Updates: Things To Know For Week Of March 22
Here are the latest developments regarding new coronavirus in Virginia, including the number of cases and deaths.
VIRGINIA — As cases of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, continue to rise in Virginia and the U.S., Patch will continue to provide updates as more information is released. The Virginia Department of Health said Saturday there have been 17 deaths and 739 presumptive positive cases of COVID-19. Presumptive positive cases were tested at the state or local level and need to be confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. So far 9,166 people were tested for COVID-19 in Virginia.
Seven deaths happened in southeast Virginia's Peninsula Health District. Four people at Henrico County's Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center have died, according to NBC12. Southside Virginia's first death was reported in the Pittsylvania-Danville Health District, and Northern Virginia's first deaths happened in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties. Virginia Beach also reported one death.
Of the 739 presumptive positive cases in Virginia, 99 are hospitalized. Fairfax Health District led the state with 124 cases, followed by Arlington County with 63 and James City County with 55. Prince William County has 44 cases, Loudoun County has 43 cases, Virginia Beach has 29 cases, Henrico County has 28 cases, Alexandria has 18 cases and Richmond has 17 cases. Numerous other counties have reported cases. The state total may not include the latest cases reported by localities.

VA Governor Seeks Federal Coronavirus Test Site, Forgoes Neckties
Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam wants the Trump administration to set up a federal testing site for the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area that would be able to handle the large number of federal employees. The region is home to more than 360,000 federal workers, many of whom work in critical federal agencies, Northam said Friday in a coronavirus news briefing in Richmond.
Coronavirus Cases Surpass 600 In Virginia, 14 Deaths Reported
Cases of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, increased by more than 100 from Thursday to Friday, according to the latest count from the Virginia Department of Health. Cases are up to 604 statewide, with 83 of the patients hospitalized. The state reported 14 deaths. The number of people tested in Virginia increased from 6,189 to 7,337.

Coronavirus Closes Fairfax County Park Playgrounds, Skate Parks
Playgrounds, skate parks and restrooms at parks operated by the Fairfax County Park Authority are closed amid the new coronavirus outbreak, the park authority announced Monday. The changes took effect immediately and continue until further notice. Open-air parks and trails are open.
The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority also announced updates to its operating status Monday. While many parks are open, playgrounds are closed, NOVA Parks Headquarters is closed and NOVA Parks programs are canceled. Check each individual park for opening status and hours.
Huntington Provider Offers Drive-Thru Testing For Coronavirus

Metrobus Offers Free Service To Prevent Spread Of Coronavirus
All Metrobus riders must enter and exit buses through the rear door, starting Tuesday, to prevent bus drivers and the public from getting exposed to the coronavirus, or COVID-19, according to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. First Coronavirus Death In Fairfax County Reported

Loudoun School Principal Tests Positive For Coronavirus

The Fairfax County Health Department is asking individuals who attended a church service in Bailey's Crossroads to self-quarantine for 14 days after a 40-year-old man tested positive for the new coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.
