'Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over' Holiday Enforcement Campaign Starts: State Police Roundup
The New Hampshire Office of Highway Safety says increased enforcement begins Wednesday through 2024. Plus: Blotters from around the state.

CONCORD, NH — The New Hampshire Office of Highway Safety will coordinate with local, county, and state police to step up enforcement of drunken drivers on Granite State highways beginning Wednesday.
The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” effort, which will run through Jan. 1, 2024, will organize 120 law enforcement agencies to detect and deter impaired drivers. The state said December is traditionally one of the most dangerous months of the year for drivers. During the December months of 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, as an example, six people were killed in alcohol-impaired crashes on state roads. In 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, 39 drivers were involved in crashes while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medications, officials said.
Two years ago, 118 people were killed in crashes on state highways and, in more than 70 percent of the cases, alcohol and-or drugs were connected to the incidents. Data for 2022 and 2023 is not yet available, officials said.

“As residents and visitors make plans for their holiday celebrations with families and loved ones, a safe ride home should be part of those plans,” Lt. Christopher Storm of the New Hampshire State Police, which is partnering with the NHOHS on the upcoming enforcement campaign, said. “Choosing to drive drunk puts drivers, their passengers, and everyone else on the road at risk.”
Anyone seeing a potential drunk driver was asked to call 911.
