Around 3:15 a.m., an officer on Water Street saw a Hyundai sedan in the intersection in a stationary position and then, saw it leave the intersection. As it did, the officer noticed a taillight that was out on the car. The car was stopped on the northbound side of Interstate 93 onramp at Exit 13. The officer spoke to the driver, Lane, who had a dog on her lap, and found out her operating privileges were suspended, the report said. During the interviews with Lane and two passengers, the officer said they were bringing the dog to the vet after it ingested drugs in the parking lot of the Best Western, an affidavit said. Lane, the report said, had been convicted of driving while intoxicated in 1998 and habitual offender four times before, between 2002 and February 2022. Neither passenger was licensed to drive either, the report said. Other officers arrived and Lane was arrested. While being arrested, she grabbed a small purse in a coat pocket and attempted to put it in the vehicle, the affidavit said. After being placed in the cruiser, another officer retrieved the purse and accused Lane of being in possession of a glass pipe and a large plastic bag with a tan granular substance believed to be heroin or fentanyl. During an inventory search, another purse was found containing hypodermic needles, a scale, dozens of small baggies, and another bag with a tan granular substance believed to be fentanyl. In all, about 11.62 grams of the drug were found, the affidavit said. The report also noted that crimeline tips had been submitted about Lane — including one accusing her of selling drugs out of the hotel, having stolen coins, and being in possession of a sawed-off shotgun, the officer wrote in the affidavit.
