Christopher M. Blodgett, 49, of no fixed address in Concord, was arrested at 7:12 p.m. on April 18 on a theft by deception charge, a felony due to two prior convictions. Around 10:30 a.m. on April 17, police were sent to Walmart on Loudon Road for a past-tense theft. A loss prevention employee accused Blodgett of coming into the store, taking a pair of Zefal gloves off a shelf, and then returning them to the customer service desk for a gift card for $19.96. The reporting officer eyed security footage and confirmed the employee’s accusation, an affidavit said. Dispatch ran Blodgett’s priors and found him convicted of theft in Franklin District Court in January 2015 and felony theft of services in Merrimack County Superior Court in December 2021. Later in the shift, a sergeant informed the officer Blodgett was in the area of Washington and North Sprint streets and the officer went to speak with him. “When I arrived,” the officer wrote, “I immediately noticed that Christopher was wearing the exact same outfit that he was wearing in the surveillance footage.” Blodgett was accused of admitting he was at Walmart and returned a pair of gloves, but they did not fit him. He said he was unsure when he bought them, the affidavit said. When told there was video footage of him taking the gloves and returning them, “he denied doing so,” the report said. A warrant was then issued for his arrest.
