MANCHESTER, CT — Can't make the five-hour drive north of the border for a little Canadian cuisine? Well, the latest Hidden Gem makes it much more manageable.

Welcome to Chez Ben Diner in Manchester. Chez Ben, located at 927 Center St. in Manchester, specializes in classic Canadian cuisine and classic American diner fare.

Owners Joel and Anne Quirion of South Windsor are now at the helm after taking over the family restaurant from founders Benoit and Solange Quirion. The atmosphere at Chez Ben is like "dining at the Quirion home."

Breakfast is served all day at the diner and lunch begins at about 10:30 a.m.

Want the fried Canadian cheese without all the hoopla? That's on the menu. But for the sticklers, there is an entire page of poutine dishes.

For the early risers, the breakfast menu serves up a Quebecor omelet or egg sandwich (creton, mustard and cheese).
