The Virginia Department of Health sent a letter to health care providers informing them that the department is preparing for the potential release of a vaccine for COVID-19 as early as Nov. 1. The letter represents a "call to action" to health care providers to prepare to provide a vaccine but does not mean that a vaccine will be available in November, the department said.

Select DCPS Students Can Return To The Classroom Nov. 9

District of Columbia Public Schools elementary students will be returning to the classroom for Term 2 Nov. 9. Select students will engage in small group in-person learning. According to the school district, one classroom per grade will be allowed in-person instruction with less than 12 students per class. Grades pre-kindergarten through fifth grade will follow a typical school day schedule.

White House Visitors Warned To Be Tested For COVID-19

Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, the director of the D.C. Department of Health, joined health leaders from nine area jurisdictions calling on recent visitors to the White House to get tested for COVID-19 and contact their local health departments about the potential need to quarantine. The warning included people who may have attended President Trump's Supreme Court announcement ceremony in the Rose Garden on Sept. 26.

The Fairfax County School Board voted unanimously at a Thursday meeting to change the name of Mosby Woods Elementary School in the Oakton area. The school references the Mosby Woods neighborhood, which was named after Confederate Col. John S. Mosby.
