Amanda Marie Turner, 35, of Meadow Lane in Allenstown, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. on March 15 on a theft by unauthorized taking charge, a felony, due to two prior convictions. Around 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 3, police were sent to the NY Smoke and Vape shop on Loudon Road for a theft call. An employee said a suspect stole around $300 worth of products and fled the scene with others in a burnt orange-colored Kia. An officer met with the employee, who said four people came into the store, and a man purchased products from a Venmo cash card without a name on it. After making the buy, the employee said the man put multiple vape cartridges into his pockets and left. The employee gave the officer security footage from the store, which was logged as evidence. About nine days later, a woman, the driver of the Kia previously, came into the store and was confronted by the employee. The employee attempted to call the police back to the store, but she fled in the same Kia Forte as before. The employee jotted down the temporary plate and gave it to the officer. During a check, the officer found the license belonged to Turner, a report said. The officer reviewed the footage from Feb. 3 and accused Turner of stealing items while in the store — about $80 worth of vape cartridges. The officer requested more photos and video from the employee and shared the footage with other officers to see if they could recognize the other people inside the store at the time of the original call. The officer also wrote in an affidavit that the video of Turner matched her NH DMV photo. The officer called Turner, questioned her about the incident, and via a bit of tricky wordplay, confirmed she was at the store during the Feb. 3 theft incident, an affidavit said. She denied knowing the man who stole the items — claiming he was a hitchhiker she picked up, the report said, while adding she did not steal anything. After being told there was a video of her stealing the cartridges, “she was silent, for a moment, and then advised me she would like to speak to her lawyer, and that she would call me back,” the affidavit stated. On Feb. 27, still having not heard back from Turner, the officer filed a warrant for her arrest, the report said. Since she was convicted on theft charges in Merrimack County Superior Court in June 2012 and Concord District Court in April 2019, the charge was elevated to a felony.
