Deborah Diane Currier, 58, of Monroe Street in Concord was arrested at 2:15 p.m. on Dec. 5 on a felony arson charge. Around 8:15 a.m. on March 28, a detective began investigating a suspicious fire on Howard Street in the state hospital complex from the previous evening. The fire marshal said the fire at the home, which was under renovation and vacant at the time, was reported around 8 p.m. An investigation revealed branches, twigs, and trash bags near a rear porch appeared to have been lit to start the fire. State hospital police also had a person of interest, Currier. According to investigators, the Northern Family Institute reported to the state hospital that Currier had left her boyfriend’s home around 8 p.m. but had not returned to the hospital, an affidavit said. On the morning of March 28, an NFI employee suspected Currier, who had been involved in other arsons, may have been involved, but had no actual evidence. A former client reported to NFI that Currier told her she “wasn’t doing well,” had “shaved her head,” and then took a car, and set “the big blue house” on fire, the report stated. Police were able to track Currier down in Bedford at a Dunkin’ Donuts on South River Road, and she was brought to Concord Hospital for an evaluation. She suffers from “schizo-affective disorder,” the report said. The affidavit said the detective spoke to Currier’s boyfriend about the evening before, in which they watched a movie, and he said she was asking if there was any way to find her cell phone if she lost it. He reported it sounded as if Currier “did not want anyone to find her,” the detective wrote. Later, she left by cab, the report said. A taxi driver was interviewed and stated he brought her to Rocky’s Ace Hardware on Loudon Road and then dropped her off on Pleasant Street because she did not have enough money to be driven to Hooksett, which is where she really wanted to go, the report said. The detective evaluated competency paperwork from April 2017. Currier’s priors include an October 2012 arson on Ledgewood Road in Bedford, a building fire in November 2013 on Somerville Street in Manchester, a July 2014 arson at a Super 8 Motel in Manchester, and the March 2018 St. Elizabeth Seton Church fire in Bedford. A warrant was issued on Dec. 1. Read more here: Update: Concord Fire Eyeing Cause Of State Office Complex Blaze
Carl David Soderberg, 54, of North Main Street in Concord was arrested at 3:46 p.m. on Nov. 29 on forgery and theft by deception, less than $1,000, charges, both felonies. Around 5:30 p.m. on July 14, a detective was sent to the liquor store on Fort Eddy Road to investigate a fake $20 bill. A store manager, cashing out, reported finding the strange bill and spoke to an employee about the bill. They determined a timeframe of when the sale was made and called the police. The detective confirmed the $20 bill was thicker and stated “for motion picture use only” in the right corner of the bill. The bill was checked at headquarters with a fraud fighter light and proven to be fraudulent. Six days later, the detective returned to the store after the manager determined who passed the fake bill, and the detective “positively” identified the suspect as Soderberg due to “several previous contacts she had with him,” an affidavit stated. During a conversation with the manager, the detective also learned a similar thing happened at Market Basket next door when a man tried to pass a phony $20 bill. The woman said the man claimed he did not know it was fake. While the two women were speaking, “Soderberg entered the store and later, purchased some liquor,” the detective wrote. During this incident, he only used singles, the employee said, but the Market Basket employee confirmed it was the same man who attempted to pass the counterfeit money at the grocery store previously, the report stated. The affidavit said the detective spoke with the store manager at Market Basket and eyed surveillance footage confirming it was Soderberg. On Oct. 18, the detective spoke to Soderberg, who was being held in the county jail on unrelated charges. When asked, he said he did not know at first but then remembered, saying he got the fake bill while panhandling, an affidavit said. The detective accused him of admitting to knowing it was fake. Since Soderberg had previously been convicted twice before, the theft charge was elevated to a felony. A warrant was issued in late October.
