VERNON, CT — This week's Hidden Gem is a special tribute to veterans and their families.

Lugg Memorial Field, located inside Grove Hill Cemetery in Vernon, was created to accommodate requests from veterans and their families for additional cemetery space. It was named in honor of Harry H. Lugg, a World War II Navy veteran and former state legislator from the Rockville section of town.

The field is a sacred place reserved for the burial of veterans and is a focal point of the annual Vernon Memorial Day Parade.
