Kayla Marie Lonergan, 27, of Harwich Court in Merrimack was arrested at 11:15 a.m. on Aug. 3 on a theft by unauthorized taking charge, a felony due to two prior convictions. Around 8:45 p.m. on June 22, an officer was sent to investigate a past-tense theft at Walmart on Loudon Road. A loss prevention employee claimed a woman passed through all points of sale with a cart full of unpaid items. Afterward, she ditched the items and left in a maroon Nissan Frontier with a New Hampshire registration. The officer took the report — saying an employee saw the woman acting strangely and began following her around the store. The employee claimed the woman put on a new pair of shoes, essentially stealing them, and then walked around the store, plucking other items, the report stated. According to video footage, the Nissan circled the parking lot as if they were waiting for someone, an employee claimed. As the woman attempted to leave via the garden section, the report said an employee tried to stop her. Outside, the woman left the cart, jumped into the vehicle, and fled the scene, an affidavit said. The items were valued at more than $830. On July 8, the officer shared a photo of the woman and an officer identified the suspect as Lonergan, a report stated, and she was matched by descriptors, including a tattoo on her arm. A check of records also found Lonergan was arrested in the Nissan on Jan. 7. She was arrested again in the same vehicle on March 12 — with the owner accusing her of stealing it from him, an affidavit said. The officer attempted to reach Lonergan and the owner of the Frontier but had no luck. A check found Lonergan with “multiple prior thefts,” including a felony conviction out of Danville in June 2015 and Rockingham County Superior Court in January 2019. A warrant was issued for her arrest on July 28.
