They started with cider in 2017.

A few years prior, they had both had been laid off from full-time jobs. As Harmon put it, "We both enjoy our cocktails," so they started exploring their own brands.

"Neither of us were big beer drinkers and beer production includes a lot of equipment that we didn't have money for," she added. "I liked cider so Dan started making hard cider. The early ones were not always perfect but the first great one was Sweet Vanilla. And Sweet Vanilla is still our best selling variety. We keg and can our product and sell to Connecticut bars, breweries, restaurants and package stores."

The Stafford Cidery currently has 12 varieties on draft in the taproom.

Vanilla might be the most popular flavor, but Crazy Cock Cider is the most talked about.

"The Crazy Cock name came from our first rooster," Harmon said. "He was a very friendly, mottled Cochin — a small breed with feathered legs — rooster who used to run across our yard at full speed to get to his hens. He was just so silly and the Crazy Cock name came from watching him."

The taproom now has hundreds of rooster statues and all have been donated over the years.

The business also serves non-alcoholic beer by Athletic Brewing, local Hosmer Mountain sodas and chips, cheeses and dips. Customers are also welcome to bring in food from outside restaurants.
