ALEXANDRIA, VA — Between local government, transportation and business news, there was a variety of news that interested Old Town Alexandria Patch readers in 2022.

Business news tends to be a popular topic among readers. One of the restaurant openings was Frank Pepe, which is credited as the creator of New Haven-style pizza. Other openings included Turkish Coffee Lady, 1799 Prime, Foxtrot Cafe, Beeliner Diner and many more. This year also saw the return of Vermilion while businesses like Periwinkle Boutique and Elizabeth's Counter closed.

In transportation news, a top story was the Potomac Yard Metro opening delay, setting a potential opening for 2023. A study named the Alexandria historic district the most dangerous for pedestrians in Virginia based on crash data. In Vision Zero news, speed cameras in some school zones are expected to launch in 2023, and speed limit reductions were approved on some roads.
