MANSFIELD, CT — At first, readers of this week's Hidden Gem column will think, "That's not hidden. The Mansfield Drive-In has been in operation since 1954, on busy Route 32 at the junction of Route 31, and the Sunday flea market has been a staple on the grounds since 1975."

All true; however, we've discovered the largest weekly booth at the flea market, yet many people do not even realize it is there. It is at the point on the property farthest away from the entrance, located indoors where an old chicken coop used to reside.

Booth 220, measuring 12 feet by 72 feet, has been inside the building for about 25 years, and a regular part of the flea market for more than 30. It is operated by Bob Lumadue, better known as "Bob the Card King."

You want cards? Bob has them - all of them - every kind imaginable. Sports, non-sports, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic. He has old, he has new - he has complete sets or singles, wax packs from the 1980s and 1990s. Pretty much everything imaginable in the trading card industry, with thousands of sports cards available at an incredible rate of 20 for a buck. That's right: as little as a nickel a card.

Don't get the idea that cards are Bob's only vocation. Comic books are a huge item at Booth 220, with a current promotion of buy one, get one free (higher price prevails - you can't buy a $4 comic book and a $25 one and expect to pay just four bucks - I personally have seen people try).

Want even more? Coins, collectibles, Hot Wheels, Matchbox, tokens, programs, records, post cards, marbles, hobby supplies - there's a little something for everyone in one stop.

The flea market is open Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come prepared to spend hours on end at Bob's station (trust me on this one - twice in the past month, I've opened his booth at 8 and been kicked out at closing time at 2).
