EAST WINDSOR, CT — Technically, this week's Hidden Gem is located on a major state road, but with it being set back from the street, tucked into a corner of a multi-building plaza and with no signage other than above its location, one might easily speed on by and miss out on some of the best sandwiches to be found in north-central Connecticut.

Since opening in 2010, the Pickle Jar Deli has been located at 33-A South Main Street in East Windsor, in Pasco Commons, a mixed commercial/residential complex. Owner Annkera Carlander specializes in preparing homemade delicacies to eat in or take out. Just how homemade? She uses vegetables grown in a garden behind the shop.

Many varieties of sandwiches, soups and a unique homemade chocolate chip cookie are among the mouthwatering items found daily at the deli. It is open Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
