WEST HARTFORD, CT — The latest Hidden Gem certainly brightens up one's spirits.

It's the The John P. Webster Library at First Church in West Hartford.

The JPWL is a "spiritual resource center," located beneath the First Church meeting house. Although it is housed in a Congregational church, the public is welcome to visit — membership in the church is not a prerequisite for a JPWL library card.

New visitors tend to react to the library with a "wow," because is it a "cozy, welcoming place with a contemporary feel."

In addition to reading materials, the library features a coffee bar, seed library, and childrens area.

It carries books on history, sociology, LGBTQ+ issues, church history, Bible interpretation, and health, as well as spirituality and religion. It also has a well-curated section of literary fiction and poetry.

The library is located at 12 South Main St. in the center of West Hartford along the north shoulder of Blue Back Square.
