HARTFORD/TOLLAND COUNTIES, CT — The latest Gem, or should we say Gems, can be found just about anywhere in Hartford or Tolland counties and they can sneak up on anyone without warning.

Welcome to the getting "Flocked" fundraisers. They are popular all over the region in the warmer months in efforts to raise money for organizations like church and school groups. The Flock pictured is part of a fundraiser for the Rockville High School Project Graduation efforts to provide an amusement hall for a safe post-graduation celebration that runs overnight.

There are essentially two ways to flock someone.

The first is downright sneaky. The charitable group picks a victim and then a commando group, armed with flamingos, attacks the front yard. The Flamingos are placed in the yard, along with a ransom note demanding a donation in return for the removal of the flock.

The other option is to simply make a donation to have someone "flocked" and the flamingos mysteriously appear in the yard, along with a placard and note acknowledging the donation.

The flocking fundraising kits are available through a variety of outlets online.
