Hidden Gems Of Hartford And Tolland Counties

VERNON, CT — The latest trip to a Hidden Gem takes us to a corner of Prospect Street in Vernon and one of the most generous annual programs at one of the most generous clothing banks in north central Connecticut

It's the Cornerstone Foundation's annual back-to-school event that offers stuffed backpacks to children for the start of the school year.

Opening day was Friday and students in the first through 12th grades flocked to Cornerstone's clothing bank for the event.

Here is the schedule:

• Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Aug 16 from 4 to 7 p.m.
• Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There is never a charge for the event, which relies on donations from the community. The program — and the clothing bank itself — is in dire need of socks at the moment.
