SIMSBURY, CT — This week's trip to a Hidden Gem takes us to a tavern that dates cack to Colonial times, but offers contemporary American cuisine on its patio or in a comfy dining room. Legend has it that the place is haunted.

Welcome to Abigail's Grille and Wine Bar at 4 Hartford Road in the Weatogue section of Simsbury.

The location has been serving up food and fun for about 245 years.

Appetizers go from the basic like calamari, wings and crab cakes to the creative like risotto fritters, gorgonzola garlic bread, eggplant and burrata and crispy pork belly.

The raw includes a seafood martini.

Dinner offerings include house-made pasta and steaks and chops. The lunch menu includes classic burgers and sandwiches and extensive salads.

The location also has a reputation for being haunted.

The tale is a told on CTHauntedHouses.com. The circa 1780 structure was first known as the Petitbone Tavern. Legend has it that Mrs. Abigail Petitbone, with her husband not being around much, began a romantic tryst with another man. As luck would it, hubby returned home unannounced, walked in on them and took care of business with an ax.

Reports of her spirit mingling about near a second-floor loo have been filed by both staff members and guests.
